Lets Fight Poverty and Hunger

I am sorry if this page has taken a long time to load. Anyways how much time did it take…. Ten Seconds (BroadBand), Twenty Seconds (Dialup) or Fifty Seconds (Mobile).
Let’s take average Thirty (30) Seconds. Why I am so concerned with this time is that within this time (30 Sec) SIX CHILDREN HAVE DIED DUE TO HUNGER!!

Yes, according to the UN Child Report, One Child Dies in Every 5 Second due to Hunger. Isn’t it horrifying, shocking, pathetic, sorrowful and ghastly? I don’t know about you, but to me, this fact brings, Anger, Shock, Fear, and Tears. Honestly ask yourself did you ever think of such poor people who strive hard to earn a square meal.
I don’t know if you have met the poorest people of this world. For your kind information, the people you see on the roads, beggars, hawkers, amateur thieves and slum dwellers…they are not the one of whom I am talking about.

I am talking about homeless, jobless, illiterate and penniless people. Specially the children as they have absolutely no means to subsist. They just die due to hunger i.e. no food to eat. Medical encyclopedia says it is sufficient for a middle aged man to survive of 5 pieces of bread daily. Now tell me, how pathetic it is. We must have thrown so many pieces of bread unknowingly just because our appetite was satisfied.

Do you know that more than 50 % of children worldwide are undernourished? While 25% are obese. Why is this chilling imbalance? So many kids just don’t have enough food to survive. Can we do some thing about this? or Have we done some thing about this? NO. Now a argument will pop-up in your mind and you will say What alone can you do or Its not under your capability or Its policy makers headache (or Governments), not yours…….
I will tell you what alone you can do. This is another plaque which has clutched our society. We tend to neglect the FORCE OF ONE, because we are always taught of STRENGTH OF UNITY.

Before I tell you what and how you can help reduce hunger and poverty, I want to share some personal anecdote. When people read my profile in Orkut they come across my aim which reads as 1. To Eradicate World Poverty and Hunger (There are 2 more). They give strange replies and comment. Some think I’m nuts, some think its slouch (lie to get attention) and some empathy on me, but none are stirred or inspired. I had always waited for scraps like.. Come on Aaditya lets do it or Ok let me help you or I share the same aim as yours.

Now let me tell you what at the least you can do. Next time you leave some food on plate think twice. It is not to sympathize with those who do not get to eat but it has an Economical Effect.
Let me explain. If you take more but eat less i.e. you waste. It means you buy more than what you need. Thus more demand with same supply causes price to sore up. It is called Demand and Supply Rule. When price increase the poor can’t afford it. The increase may be just few % or few rupees but for those who earn just under Rs 100 (Standard Poverty Line Parameter) few rupees makes whole lot of a difference. In return if you buy just what you need. That is the commodity is surplus in the market which causes the price to plunge making it more affordable.

I know, again you may be thinking; just by your taking the measures what difference will it make. Now you are neglecting the STRENGTH OF UNITY. Even if you buy 1 kg Dosai mau or Rice or wheat less per week multiply it with just 20 Crore (One Fifth of India’s Population) and now you see. The surplus will cause the price to decrease at least by 25%. Still if you are not impressed or if you didn’t understand the Maths leave it. Just contribute.

I hope hence forth you all people (who ever reads this) will make effort to reduce hunger and poverty. If you can come forward with better ideas do let me know as it would help me achieve my aim. Don’t wait for others to start. You lead others.

Last fact to just to keep you enthralled. Average reading speed is 150 words per minute. Till here its 755 words. So it must have taken you 5.03 minutes. By this time 60 children have died due to lack of bread or dosai or idli or chapatti or pasta or momo which you will be leaving wasted in your plate tonight.
